Why mastering matters

Mastering is the last creative and technical step before release. It brings the tonal balance, loudness and cohesion that let a track sit comfortably next to others on a playlist, and it catches issues that are easy to miss after weeks inside the same project.

Streaming platforms and distributors each expect files that meet current industry standards. I deliver masters built to those standards, so your release moves through distribution without technical surprises and sounds the way you intended on every platform.

How I work

A fresh pair of ears

I listen to your mix with distance and note what serves the song and what does not. If something in the mix limits the result, I will tell you rather than hide it.

Tone and dynamics

Subtle EQ, compression and saturation bring clarity, weight and cohesion. The aim is to enhance your mix, not to rewrite it. When a stereo mix needs more precise adjustments, stem mastering is available.

Loudness and translation

Levels are set for streaming and checked on several playback systems, with true-peak safety so the file stays clean after encoding by the platforms.

Consistency across a project

For EPs and albums, I match the tracks to one another and set spacing and transitions, so the project feels like one body of work.

What you receive

  • A release-ready master in 24-bit WAV, plus the formats your distributor requires, all to current industry standards
  • A master prepared to Apple's Digital Masters guidelines when relevant
  • Clean, clearly labelled files for each track of your release
  • Stem mastering when the project calls for it
  • Revisions as defined in your quote

How to prepare your project

  • Export your final mix as a 24-bit WAV (or higher), at the session's sample rate
  • Leave headroom: peaks around −6 dBFS are ideal, and please remove any limiter from the master bus
  • Make sure the mix is final: mastering enhances a balance, it cannot fix one
  • Send reference tracks and tell me where you want the record to land
  • For an EP or album, send the track order and any ideas for gaps or crossfades
  • For stem mastering, send grouped stems (for example drums, bass, music, vocals) alongside the stereo mix

Frequently asked questions

What is stem mastering?

It is mastering from a handful of grouped stems instead of a single stereo file. It allows more precise adjustments, for example balancing the vocal against the instrumental, while keeping the mix intact.

How loud will my master be?

It depends on the style and on the song. I aim for a master that is competitive and still dynamic, checked against streaming normalisation, rather than the loudest possible.

Do you master tracks mixed by someone else?

Yes. I master projects mixed by other engineers as well as my own mixes.

What is Apple Digital Masters?

It is Apple's programme for high-resolution masters delivered to Apple Music. I am an Apple Digital Masters certified engineer, so I can prepare your master to those guidelines.

How is mastering priced?

There are no fixed rates. Each project is quoted individually, depending on the number of tracks and the type of mastering needed.
